Adam Rifkin’s a filmmaker I like a lot, precisely because I have no idea what to expect from him, film to film. NIGHT AT THE GOLDEN EAGLE, THE DARK BACKWARD, DETROIT ROCK CITY, LOOK, and now the preposterously silly HOMO ERECTUS hardly seem like they could be the work of one person, but maybe that’s why I admire his work. He can’t be pinned down.

This coming Wednesday night, I’m going to be screening NATIONAL LAMPOON’S HOMO ERECTUS at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood, on the smaller Steven Spielberg screen, and I’d love to have you guys join me. All you have to do is send me an e-mail at this address with the exact heading “I Want To See HOMO”, as well as your name and how many in your party, and I’ll send you a confirmation e-mail with the time. It’s that easy. You’ll get MAXIM girls and Adam Rifkin and a gay Tom Arnold and all sorts of lunacy, and we’ll chat with Adam afterwards. That’s if I can keep a straight face when I talk to him after seeing this. He’s never starred in one of his films before, and it may have made it impossible for me to ever take him seriously again. If the Q&A doesn’t keep you in your seat, maybe the live appearance by the Homo Girls, fresh from a Maxim Online shoot, along with a photo opportunity and a meet and greet, will be the trick.

The great thing about a movie like this smack dab in the middle of the summer movie season is that this is so small, so very independent. It’s the opposite of the giant blockbusters and wannabes that are occupying most of the screens out there right now. It’s a ridiculous little film, like an early Woody Allen movie crossed with the Ringo Starr CAVEMAN, and it’s worth coming out to enjoy with a group.
