Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a little bit of news that hit Variety this very morning regarding Mr. George Clooney. He's apparently optioned Jonathan Mahler's novel THE CHALLENGE about a Navy lawyer who teams with a law professor to ensure that Osama bin Laden's bodyguard and driver Salim Hamdan is given a fair hearing.

Sounds like a courtroom drama, but it's sold as a legal thriller based on the real life trial that took place on Guantanamo Bay. It triggered the Supreme Court's ruling that these military trials at Guantanamo are against the Geneva Convention laws.

Clooney's Smoke House Productions has the property with Clooney yet to decide what role he'll take, but it could be writer, director, star or all of the above.
