I didn't watch the first season when it first aired, i only found out about the show after the show had finished its first season. I was lucky enough to hear about the show from my friends in WAV chat, and caught the first 4 eps online, and then the rest of the season in re-runs.

I'm glad it's on the channel it's on, other channels than HBO deserve to have good shows

That would be great!

Especially the trial part. Now we can see unending claims of how the cops violated the criminals human rights. And, then after murdering 20 children and a pregnant mother, we can see the judge give the criminal 18 months in prison. Per the European standard.

We can also watch as the lawyers argue that EU law should trump UK law in dealing with the criminal

Also, since it is a European show, all of the criminals can either be white males or Christians. We can look forward to the episode where Christians behead a Muslim

Expect the weekly twist to be (nearly every week) that originally it looks like the crime was committed by a member of an immigrant minority, but in the end we'll find out the crime was really committed by a native Briton (preferably white Christian male).

Instead of two policemen, we'll get to see one policeman and some form of social worker. The social worker will be there to protect the human rights of the criminal.

We'll get to see police procedure part as an over-sterilized PC-fest

During sweeps we'll finally get the episode where they chase down a criminal for violating the TV license.

I almost forgot

The episode where a group of chaz are throwing rocks and other rubbish at a guy's house. The wife and child are hiding in fear behind the sofa. The police have been called but take >2 hours to arrive. Finally, the guy takes a peice of lumber and goes out to defend his home. The police show up and arrest the guy, with the chaz being kindly interviewed as witnesses. During the trial the guy gets 5 years

We'll also have a episode where at the end the victims decide to emigrate to Canada, Australia, or New Zealand. BTW, the criminals may have gotten off with a suspended sentence or 2 months of jail

We'll have a stabbing death in broad daylight with ~10 witnesses. The chief of police will go on TV to remind everyone that if they see a crime in commission it is best to just walk on by.

We'll have an episode where someone is scamming the congestion charge or some environmental evil.

His monologue about what a wife should be. Him being berated by his wife after exchanging the chip and dip. He was fucking phenomenal. Also, Draper's wife is maybe giving the most nuanced performance on the show, and I love Joan, but she's nowhere near as layered as Mrs. Draper. Curious to see what's passed in these two years.

From what I remember, his father was a grade A asshole enough to almost make you forgive Pete for being one too (almost). Also, Draper's kids don't look much different for 15 months later. Also where the hell is the pay off for Draper's wife telling the shrink that she knew he was cheating on her...the shrink sat on that for 15 months even though he was telling Don everything else? And I still say there's more to why Don had to pretend to be dead than we know, he was old enough that he couldn't have still been under his step mother's power unless she had something on him or whatever. Finally, more Joan, less of everyone else at Sterling Cooper...except for Sterling and Cooper themselves, they were fun to watch. "Mr. Campbell, who cares?" Hell, just hearing Morse say "Dick Nixon" was satisfying. Finally, why the hell were none of the actresses awarded for his show but the men were? January Jones owned all. I think this "shocking" look at the past shows that things aren't really all that different in more ways that we should allow.

Was a great scene. and foreshadowing of things to come, methinks. Draper is not going to like all the changes this decade is going to bring him.

And Peggy is only supposed to be 22? That's a stretch for me. The actress is at least ten years older than that.

More Joan. And don't let her get married. I like it when she sluts it up.

He's just too inexperienced to utilize his brain-power effectively. I'm rewatching the first season...he was the only character that was right about JFK. Or maybe it just proves he's smarter than Roger (not a difficult task). (And the episode was written over a year ago, so they couldn't have known, but you could have that exact same scene today about McCain and Obama.)
If Matthew Weiner hadn't said over 14 months had passed...
by Voice O. Reason
Jul 28th, 2008

...since the last episode, I'd have never known it. Except for Peggy's weight loss and Kinsey's beard, everyone seemed exactly the same to me. Peggy's disappearance for 3 months after having the baby, the tension between Don and Duck, and Joan having a new boyfriend were the only references to anything happening in between seasons...and those are things that could have happened between Thankgiving 1960 and Valentine's Day 1961. JFK Jr. was even referenced as being a baby, though he was over a year old by Feb. 1962 (though many people do call a 1 year-old a "baby"). "The Twist" had almost been out for a couple of years by this point, so its inclusion doesn't date the show outside of either 1961 or 1962. Maybe the script was written before they decided on the time shift, and then they didn't go back and make any changes because nothing really stood out as dating the episode to 1961?

Now my wife and I are dying to see what happens next. What a well written and totally researched show! The Art Department on this should should get a special award as they are just hitting on all cylinders with making us believe this is the early 60's. I seen multi-million dollar movies that try to capture this period and always fail with the look. I have noticed that some of the haircuts have been getting a little more modern looking in the first episode of the second season, but maybe that's in keeping that this is 14 months later than the first season?

With Duck and try and elbow Don to the side as far as power rankings in the office.

As much as I would like to see Cranston's performance in Breaking Bad win ( his character could've been a simple sad sack one-note character, but it contained all sorts of shadings ), but I think for the simple fact that Jon Hamm came in from nowhere ( who ever heard of this guy before? ), and so fully developed Don Draper, that his win is assured.

My wife remarked, "she's worth a lot more than $6 for a fan belt". I thought she would at least kiss him or something, but they're just planting the seeds of where she's about to go this season. And whoever posted the idea that Betty becomes a Bell De Jour type Call Girl and gets hired by Pete Campbell was on the right track, except it's going to Sterling who hires her. They set up the chemistry between them in that scene in her kitchen last season for a reason.

It couldn't be Febuary 61, because the Kennedys had just gotten into the White House, and Jackie hadn't remodeled yet. Couldn't be 63, because Jr was still thought of as a baby.

Plus, a quick Google search finds that the White House tour was on 2/14/62, so that solves it easily.

Some shows want to be a little bit more subtle than throwing a card up on the screen.

add to that he is in a loveless marriage now....oh, and his scene with the guys in the elevator was not about his trying to fight the youth, as kids had already stopped wearing hats (kennedy started that trend) it was showing that the new decade was having an impact on him (he takes umbrage at their sex talk in front of a woman) also note the dif between drapers doctor and the ones from the first epi...already dealing with real health issues (another thing caused by the kennedy administration and their emphasis on physical fitness) to me, the best aspect of the show was the introduction of the xerox machine...and the fact that there was no place to put it...and then how it ends up in peggy's office as retribution for what she did to the secretary...and i dont believe that betty becomes a hooker by day...way too obvious...and no way does she have an affair with drapers boss...she is not attracted to him, that was all in his alchohol addled head
Peggy, Pete, Don, January...wow, what a show
by rbrog77
Jul 29th, 2008
07:37:40 AM
I knew Peggy had a set of balls last season, but they seemed to have dropped since then. And the way they write her and Don working together, playing off one another...wow!!

On the other side of the coin, nice and coy how the baby/children talk was handled in Pete's office. And is this obnoxious bastard totally clueless to his surroundings or what? Fat farm? Everyone else thinks baby (mistakenly Drapers), but on this subject this guy is clueless.

That being said, don't be surprised if by the end of the show's run it's not those 2 in charge of things in the office.

January/Betty - the best looking woman on TV - is not going to be selling it, she's going to be using it. We saw she's strong (pellet rifle) and manipulous (planting things with the shrink so he'd tell Don) last season. This year she's learning to be secretive on top of that. Don doesn't need to know everything, now does he. Think the air conditioning salesman incident would have crossed her lips this year?

On the other hand, they didn't pause on the machanics handprints on the hood for no good reason. Don's not exactly a trusting soul, so maybe being secretive will backfire.

And the book drop in the mailbox...if it turns out to be anyone other than his mistress in epi 1 from last year.........

Great show!!

An interesting page on snopes that I just discovered today shines a light on this widely accepted idea: http://www.snopes.com/history/ american/jfkhat.asp. I'm one of the people who has always believed this to be true, simply because I've heard it repeated over the years. The link above pokes holes in that theory. I'm not attempting to make any connection between this information and the episode of the show; I'm just responding to the poster above who made a passing reference to this long-repeated story.
